Welcome to our community! We’re Marcus and Natalia Heffinger, and we are truly blessed to serve and grow with the vibrant folks in Ashland. Our journey together is guided by a shared commitment to God’s call for our family, and we cherish every opportunity to connect with you all.
As a family, we engage in a variety of activities that keep our spirits high and our bonds strong. Whether it’s tending to our garden, crafting something new, or enjoying a family movie night, we find joy in the simple things. We are particularly fond of the outdoors; sunshine and fresh air are our playground. And yes, we absolutely love the beach! The sand beneath our feet and the sound of the waves are reminders of the beautiful creations of God.
Natalia brings her passion for education to Hanover County, where she dedicates herself as a school teacher. Her commitment to shaping our future generation is unwavering, as she strives to bring out the best in every child.
Pastor Mark is enthusiastic about working in ministry, alongside like-minded individuals who are devoted to fulfilling the great commandment to “Love God and Love People.” He believes in living your best life now — not just as a testament to our own faith, but as an invitation to others. It’s about showing how great our God is through our actions and opening the doors of faith to everyone, regardless of their past.

Ann Gammon
Worship Team Lead
Ann Gammon has been part of the Ashland Church of God staff since December, 2022 and currently serves as our Music Leader. In this role, she oversees the church music and drama ministries. Prior to moving into this role, Ann was part of the Praise Team, choir and participated in the church dramas. She has also been a part of various other roles within the church such as Young Adult Leader and helped with the Youth along with hosting a Forward Group and working with the children.
Ann grew up in Ashland Virginia and attended the local high school. Ann’s background in music consisted of traveling and singing gospel music with her family for over 20 years. She also played bass guitar with her family group during their music ministry. Music and worship is her passion. She believes that God’s word can go forth in a powerful way through music which is where hearts and lives can be changed.
Pastor Rick Houghton
Operations teams lead
Pastor Rick Houghton has been a member of the Ashland Church of God for over twenty five years and has served in many roles during his time at the church, These roles include serving on the pastors council, serving on the Christian education board, heading the royal ranger program, teaching adult Sunday school, and has enjoyed serving in many other roles of the church.
He grew up in Hanover county and enjoys playing tennis and anything that takes place outdoors. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Theology.
Pastor Rick’s favorite scripture is Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. As operations team lead he oversees the facilities and finances of the church. He works closely with Pastor Mark to ensure that the vision of the Ashland church of God is carried out. He has been married to his wife Karen for 40 years and they have 2 children and 5 grandchildren. He loves to spend time with family and friends and seeing new Christians grow in the Lord.
Pastor Belinda Miles
Volunteers Team Lead
Pastor Belinda Hubbard-Miles has been a part of the Ashland staff in January 2000 and is currently the Volunteers Pastor. In this role, Belinda assists congregants in finding their place in ministry, overseeing all volunteers, and being a resource for leaders. Belinda received her credentials in 2005. Prior to being the Volunteers Pastor, Belinda was involved in many ministries including Christian Education Pastor.
Pastor Belinda has lived in the Ashland area and attended Ashland church all her life. She is married with a stepdaughter. Belinda enjoys traveling, spending time with Tim, her husband, and crafting. Pastor Belinda’s passion to see people find their God given purpose and fulfill that.
Pastor Belinda’s favorite book of the Bible is Esther and her favorite verses are: Ephesians 3:20 Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, Psalms 139 Knowing God is everywhere with me is gives me so much peace.
Kristen Ellyson
Youth Ministry Leader
Kristen Ellyson was born and raised at Ashland Church of God and currently serves as our Youth Ministry Leader. In this role, she has the pleasure of watching God radically change and transform the lives of our students. She accepted the position in 2019, and has served with a fantastic team of adults who are devoted to the spiritual growth of our teenagers.
Kristen grew up here in Virginia and has attended Ashland Church of God all of her life. She has served in several ministries such as kids church, media, drama, and has been a member of our praise team since she was twelve. She went to Lee University for her undergraduate degree and graduated in 2014. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and double majored in Education. She also has a minor in Chemistry, Biology, and Bible. Through her studies, she knew that God was calling her to work with teens. In addition to her role here at church, Kristen is currently a high school math teacher for Henrico County Public Schools.
Pam Lester
Children’s Ministry Leader
Pam has 2 children and her favorite verse is Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Pam prays daily that God will help her teach children that God has plans for each of them if they just put their trust in Him.
